A Pleasant Messenger

What is PigeonMe?

Slower than others, no pictures, no videos and even no group chats: sounds bad? But it's not! PigeonMe rethinks the principle of the messenger app and relies on a conscious exchange of thoughts between you and your conversation partners.

Your friend, the pigeon

PigeonMe is a messenger that is based on the speed of carrier pigeons. That is, when you write a message to another person, it only shows up at the recipient’s phone after a certain amount of time. The speed depends on the distance: PigeonMe simulates a virtual carrier pigeon and lets the message appear at the recipient when a real carrier pigeon would also have traveled the distance between the two of you.

So if you live in Germany and write a message to someone in France, your message will travel several days. That this is not a disadvantage, but can even be an advantage, you will notice when you take a closer look at the philosophy behind PigeonMe. The focus here is less on technical sophistication than on the content itself: your messages, which you will share with family, friends & Co. in the future.

Enjoy the silence

Since sending messages takes quite a bit of time - depending on the distance - your smartphone only beeps every now and then. There's no message spam that can escalate completely, and you'll be more conscious with your device. You'll also notice that - when a message does arrive - you'll really look forward to it.

Rethink communication

How long has it been since you had a letter from a friend in your mailbox - if ever?
The feeling of reading a letter written especially for you is very different from what you feel when you read a random message from thousands in your chat history.

Messages from all around the world

You can send messages anywhere. Of course, a carrier pigeon wouldn't actually fly across the Atlantic to deliver mail in New York - but the virtual pigeon has spent a lot of time doing endurance sports and can cover this distance effortlessly.

One directional messages

A single virtual pigeon flies back and forth between you and your conversation partner. So once you've sent a message, you have to wait for a reply. This also simplifies the exchange of messages with your conversation partners and leads to you practicing patience in the future.

Track your letter

You can see when your message will reach the other person in real time in the app. So you're not completely in the dark, but know exactly when the other person will open the message and be happy about it.

Keep it simple

Most apps are in a race with their competitors to offer more and more features. What was once a simple messenger is now often a full-blown social network. We do it the other way around and reduce Messenger to what's really important: conscious communication via simple text.

Think first, then write

Messages via any messenger do not cost any money. It is therefore completely irrelevant whether you send 100 messages or just one. This leads to the fact that people tend to rarely treat what they write with the necessary seriousness. According to the “fire and forget” principle, a message is sent to the partner – and if the partner does not understand the message, a few explanatory messages follow. Checking for spelling and sense? What for – I can correct everything afterwards!

The PigeonMe system invites you and your friends to communicate more consciously. Not the speed or the funniest picture in the group are the kings here, but meaningful, well-structured, substantial messages that the recipient is really happy about. Similar to a pen pal, you need to think about what you’re writing beforehand and perhaps rethink it – because sending a “correction letter” quickly afterwards is unfortunately not possible.

FAQ

People are increasingly longing for slowness, for deceleration and calm. The urge for immediate confirmation drives us crazy for a long time.

We send out a message and expect our counterpart to immediately put everything aside to answer. But more and more often people just don’t feel like answering immediately, because they are literally overwhelmed by messages. Then they do not write back at all.

In the long run this constant pressure makes you sick. You constantly think about: “Damn, I still have to answer this and that”. Our app targets exactly this problem. We want you, dear user, to take the time to write a message and then send your bird on its way.

From now on you have a different attitude towards the message. You know: Your pigeon flies to your contact for a certain time. There it has to be read first and then you have to be patient for the bird to come back. This is a radically different approach to communication. Instead of fast & immediately, we do mindful and tranquillo.

Welcome to PigeonMe!

No real pigeons at all.  Just virutal ones.

The main goal of PigeonMe is to keep things simple. You just can send one Pigeon to someone and then you have to wait till you get a respond.

You might rightly be concerned about your privacy: After all, you have to reveal your location so the carrier pigeon knows where to fly – right? For this case, you may set up birdhouses: You simply place them where you like. Set up a bird house in Munich, but you actually live in Hamburg. This way, your location remains hidden from Google & Co. and your privacy is spared even in times of transparent users.

The PigeonMe system invites you and your friends to communicate with each other more consciously. The speed or the funniest picture in the group are not the kings here, but meaningful, well-structured, substantial messages that the recipient is really happy about. Similar to a pen pal, you need to think about what you’re writing beforehand and perhaps rethink it – because sending a “correction letter” quickly afterwards is unfortunately not possible.

After a short time you will notice how these limitations change your approach to communication. Real creativity does not exist where there is unlimited freedom, but where limits are shown – because then you have to think about how you can still communicate within these limitations. We are convinced that you will enjoy using PigeonMe for this reason after a short time.

If you are annoyed by smartphones that receive messages around the clock and acquaintances who want to share every halfway interesting picture with you, PigeonMe is the right place for you. We are aware that for certain tasks – such as contact with colleagues, customers or other professionally important people – other services are more likely to come into question. But if time is not really an issue, you can tell your friends about PigeonMe and try a new way of communication.
